Pastor Tobi Adegboyega Says Davido Is Family, Not Just a Celebrity

London-based Nigerian preacher Pastor Tobi Adegboyega has sparked online debate after sharing his personal view on Afrobeats star Davido. In a recent interview, the cleric stated that he does not consider the singer a celebrity, explaining that his relationship with Davido goes far beyond public fame.

“Davido is not a celebrity to me. He is a brother. He is a friend. When he comes to the HQ, he sits there for hours, he eats, he minds his own business,” Pastor Tobi said, emphasizing that their bond is rooted in family and friendship rather than celebrity status.

Over the years, Pastor Tobi and Davido have maintained a close friendship, often attending private events, charity programs, and family gatherings together. Social media users reacted strongly to the statement, especially after Davido liked the post, fueling further discussion online.

Netizens shared mixed opinions on Pastor Tobi’s comments. Some praised the closeness of their friendship, while others maintained that Davido remains a celebrity to the public. Responses included:

  • “As a brother means they have a closer relationship than being a celebrity E Pele 😂😂😂.”
  • “Davido still like am 😂❤️.”
  • “He’s a celebrity to some of us😍… I might never see him, but I will always celebrate him.”

Pastor Tobi has also been vocal about the rise of mega churches in Nigeria. He questioned whether building massive auditoriums truly advances spiritual impact or simply satisfies pastors’ egos. Speaking online, he said:
“The idea of a mega church in Nigeria is concerning. A pastor building a large auditorium only befits the ego of the pastor, and he’ll feel God is with him because crowds are in his church. They build churches and forget impact.”

His remarks came at a time when Bishop David Oyedepo of Living Faith Church Worldwide is completing The Ark, a 100,000-capacity auditorium reportedly worth about N100 billion in Ota, Ogun State. While Pastor Tobi did not mention any pastor by name, the timing of his comment drew attention given the ongoing mega-project.

Previously, Davido and his team paid a courtesy visit to Pastor Tobi while he was recovering from cancer. Videos from the visit showed the singer and his crew bonding with the cleric, enjoying meals, and spending quality time together. The visit, like Pastor Tobi’s comments, received mixed reactions on social media, highlighting the public’s fascination with their unique friendship.
