Osun College of Management Science Makes History as First Private Polytechnic to Offer ND in Law

In a groundbreaking achievement for Nigeria’s education sector, the Osun College of Management Science (OSCOMS), located in Ipetu Ijesha, Osun State, has become the first private polytechnic in Nigeria—and the first in southern Nigeria—to receive official approval to offer a National Diploma (ND) in Law. This landmark recognition comes after the program was fully accredited by both the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the Federal Ministry of Education.

With this approval, OSCOMS sets a new standard in expanding access to legal education through polytechnic institutions, a domain traditionally reserved for universities. This move signals a shift toward inclusivity and innovation in Nigeria’s legal education system, especially at a time when the country is witnessing increased demand for diverse legal professionals across sectors.

According to the college, the ND in Law is designed to give students a robust foundation in legal systems, court operations, legal drafting, and research skills. The program not only prepares graduates for careers in the legal field but also allows them to transition smoothly into a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Law or pursue an LL.B degree at universities globally, enhancing both academic and career mobility.

A New Chapter in Legal Education

Speaking on the milestone, Dr. Adegoke Emmanuel Olaniyi, Rector of Osun College of Management Science, praised the development as a major stride not just for the institution, but for private education in Nigeria at large.

“This is a historic milestone, not only for OSCOMS but for private education in Nigeria. The integration of ICT into our ND in Law program ensures that our students are prepared for the digital realities of today’s legal landscape,” said Dr. Olaniyi.

He also highlighted how ICT (Information and Communication Technology) is revolutionizing other departments within the institution such as Mass Communication and Performing and Media Arts, ensuring that students across disciplines are ready for the 21st-century workplace.

“ICT has reshaped how legal, media, and creative professionals operate. Our programs are structured to reflect this evolution, ensuring our graduates can thrive in today’s knowledge economy,” he added.

Admission Requirements for Prospective Students

To apply for the ND programs at Osun College of Management Science, applicants must meet the following admission criteria:

  • A minimum UTME score of 100 in either the 2024 or 2025 examinations
  • A change of institution on the JAMB portal to Osun College of Management Science (ND), Ipetu Ijesha, Osun State
  • Upload of relevant O’Level results
  • Completion of the post-UTME form via the college’s official website

This development is expected to attract aspiring legal professionals who may not have immediate access to traditional university law programs, thereby democratizing legal education and making it more accessible, especially in the southern region of Nigeria.

As the first private polytechnic in the country to launch such a program, OSCOMS is not just making history—it is shaping the future of legal and technical education in Nigeria.
