Opeyemi Famakin Fires Back at Yhemo Lee, Shows He Is Not ‘Fat Fool’

Nigerian food critic and social media influencer Opeyemi Famakin has fired back at socialite Adeyemi Idowu, popularly known as Yhemo Lee, following body-shaming remarks directed at him. The controversy erupted after Famakin reviewed a ₦160,000 perfume produced by Yhemo Lee’s wife, Thayour B, and highlighted some shortcomings in its packaging and quality.

While Famakin praised Yhemo Lee personally, his honest critique of the luxury perfume prompted a heated response from the socialite, who accused him of rejecting a ₦6 million offer for a favourable review and resorted to personal insults, including labelling him a “fat fool.” In a new video circulating online, Famakin directly addressed the remarks, showing that the insult was both unwarranted and irrelevant.

In the video, Famakin demonstrates his physical transformation, turning his body to show that the “fat fool” label no longer applies to him. He also used the platform to highlight a broader social issue: the prevalence of body shaming in Nigeria and how public condemnation of the act often does not match actual behaviour.

He stated,

“Nigerians will preach against body shaming, they’ll say that body shaming is bad, don’t body shame someone. Body shaming is this, and that, and the same people who preached body shaming is bad, when it comes to somebody that they don’t like, the thing they preached against, they will do it to them. That’s why I always say do not ever listen to the words of Nigerians because they are liars. Listen to their actions.”

The video has generated significant reactions on social media. Many users praised Famakin for his honesty and self-confidence, while others discussed the role of public perception and social media in escalating minor controversies.

Some reactions included:

  • @AbiolaAbdul: “And I think Famakin was just being honest with that review though. Yemolee is turning out to be an uncout guy. He just talks anyhow.”
  • @Rhymes_by_wonda: “Opeyemi is no longer fat, he’s only F00lish! Yhemolee should get his facts clear.”
  • @mr_chiboi: “This is facts. Nigerians hate body shaming in theory, but practice it freely when emotions enter. Once you’re ‘the enemy,’ all the morals disappear.”

Famakin’s response is notable not only for its directness but also for reinforcing his public image as a critic unafraid to speak honestly about products, services, and experiences, regardless of potential backlash.

Earlier, Famakin drew attention online with a detailed review of a popular restaurant in Ibadan, Oyo State. After visiting ‘Item 7’ following multiple recommendations, he discovered a bone inside his Shawarma, which he described as confusing despite the overall rich and meaty taste of the meal. He rated the fried rice 3.5 out of 10, the Jollof rice 5.5 out of 10, and concluded that his overall dining experience at the restaurant scored 5.2 out of 10.
