Nigerians React as Nollywood Stars Launch Tinubu Support Group

Nigerians have expressed outrage after Nollywood stars Kunle Afolayan, Yomi Fash-Lanso, Ayo Adesanya, and Remi Surutu launched a support group for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.

The group, called Eko 57 Movement, was launched in Lagos State on Sunday and is coordinated by actor Lege Miami. The move has drawn criticism online, especially given Nigeria’s growing economic hardships.

Many social media users condemned the celebrities for appearing disconnected from the struggles of ordinary Nigerians. They warned that the stars should not seek public sympathy or financial support if they face personal problems.

Netizens highlighted Nigeria’s pressing issues, including a poor healthcare system, insecurity, high electricity costs, corruption, and rising living costs under President Tinubu’s administration. They argued that these challenges deserve more attention than celebrity political endorsements.

Some reactions included:

  • @fhemiwrld: “It’s just embarrassing. No light. Fuel price increased. U don’t talk about it. Shame on Y’all.”
  • lordmayorblacksnr: “Make una sha no disturb us if any of una get problem and need the public sympathy.”
  • titbeats: “The only movement we need is mandatory realtime transmission of electoral results and nothing else.”
  • xozo10000: “Lege, what are you doing? Forgetting the masses because of your own selfish interest?”
  • der0ju: “Where is the electricity wey baba promised us before I join Eko 57?”

Other netizens criticized the celebrities for being disconnected from Nigeria’s challenges, saying their support for Tinubu does not help the country’s poor economy or insecurity.

The launch of Eko 57 Movement has intensified the debate over celebrity involvement in politics, leaving many Nigerians questioning the priorities of stars amid the nation’s hardships.
