Nigeria Police Confirms No Court Order Halting Tinted Glass Permit Enforcement

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has clarified its position on the Motor Vehicle Tinted Glass Permit Policy, stating that no court order exists to halt or prevent its enforcement. The force stated in response to public debates, particularly comments from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) regarding the legality of the policy.

Signed by Police Force spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, the statement emphasized that the NPF remains committed to respecting the judiciary and adhering to valid court orders. However, the force noted that pending litigation does not automatically suspend its duties, unless explicitly stated by a court.

The police highlighted that the policy is necessary for road safety and national security, citing a rise in vehicle-related crimes as justification for its continued implementation. Enforcement of the tinted glass permit rules is set to resume on January 2, 2026.

“The Inspector-General of Police has reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force remains unwavering in its respect for the judiciary,” the statement read. It further assured the public that enforcement will be conducted with professionalism, moderation, and strict adherence to human rights standards.

The NPF stressed that no final judicial ruling has declared the policy unlawful, and no court has issued a permanent injunction against the police regulating tinted vehicle glasses. The statement was issued to provide institutional clarity, reassure Nigerians, and affirm the force’s compliance with the rule of law while maintaining public order.
