Nigeria Maintains 38th Spot in December 2025 FIFA Men’s World Rankings

The Nigeria Super Eagles have maintained their position in the December 2025 FIFA men’s world rankings, holding steady at 38th globally, according to the latest release on Monday.

With no competitive matches played since the previous rankings, Nigeria retained its points tally of 1,502, remaining fifth among African nations. The country trails Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria on the continent.

“Nigeria remains Africa’s fifth-ranked team at 38th globally, reflecting stability but highlighting the need for further progress,” analysts noted.

Africa’s top teams include Morocco at 11th globally, Senegal in 19th, Algeria at 34th, and Egypt at 35th. Other African nations in the top 10 continentally include Tunisia (41st globally), Côte d’Ivoire (42nd), Mali (53rd), DR Congo (56th), and Cameroon (57th).

On the global stage, Spain continues to lead the rankings, reclaiming the top spot from Argentina in September 2025. France completes the podium in third place, followed by England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Croatia, all unchanged from the previous month.

The December edition, the final ranking of the year, follows 42 international fixtures, with the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 playing a significant role. Morocco’s victory at the tournament brought them close to breaking into the top 10 for the first time since April 1998, trailing Croatia by just 0.54 points.

Standout performers globally in 2025 include Kosovo, who climbed 19 places to 80th after an impressive run, recording seven wins and two draws in 10 matches. Norway (29th) and Suriname (123rd) also made notable progress, while Jordan (64th), Vietnam (107th), and Singapore (148th) recorded the largest upward movements in December, each climbing two to three spots.

Nigeria’s retention of its global ranking highlights the team’s consistency, but also underscores the need for improved performance during ongoing competitions such as AFCON 2025 to boost its continental and global standing.
