Nicki Minaj Speaks Out for Christians in Nigeria Amid Insecurity Concerns

American rapper Nicki Minaj has explained the reasons behind her recent advocacy for Christians in Nigeria, highlighting her personal connection to the country and concern over rising attacks on worshippers.

Minaj shared her thoughts during a surprise appearance at AmericaFest on Sunday, responding to questions from attendees, including Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk.

The rapper revealed that her deep ties to Nigeria inspired her to speak out. She said, “Nigeria is a place I’ve always loved. Someone very dear to me, my pastor, is Nigerian, and I have lots of Nigerian barbs.”

Nicki Minaj expressed alarm at reports of kidnappings and violent attacks targeting people while attending church. She said, “So hearing that people are being kidnapped while they’re in church, people are being killed, brutalised, all because of their religion, that should spark outrage.”

Beyond Nigeria, she emphasized the importance of protecting religious freedom worldwide, urging people not to take their ability to worship for granted. “We take for granted that there, right now in this world, are people who cannot worship God as they please, where they please,” she noted.

Minaj also stressed her determination to continue speaking out: “We’re not backing down anymore. We are not going to be silenced by the bullies anymore. We will speak up for Christians wherever they are in this world.”

The rapper’s advocacy follows her previous post sharing a statement by former US President Donald Trump that highlighted threats to Christianity in Nigeria. She further showed that protecting religious freedom requires strong leadership, praising leaders who show genuine concern for ordinary citizens’ struggles.

Her comments come amid ongoing debates over insecurity in Nigeria, with the government maintaining that violence affects all citizens regardless of faith and is not targeted at any particular religion.
