MultiChoice Faces Backlash as DStv Subscription Price Rises by 21%

MultiChoice Nigeria has announced a 21% increase in the subscription fee for its DStv Compact package, raising the cost from N15,700 to N19,000. The new pricing takes effect on March 1, 2025.

This marks yet another hike in less than a year, following a similar adjustment in May 2024. The company cited inflation and rising operational costs as reasons for the increase. However, the decision has sparked outrage among subscribers, who argue that service quality has not improved despite the continuous price adjustments.

In a notice sent to customers, MultiChoice explained that the review was necessary to maintain high-quality content and technology. While the Compact package has been affected, the Compact Plus and Premium bouquets will remain at N30,000 and N44,500, respectively.

Subscribers have taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction, with many complaining about content repetition, frequent service disruptions, and lack of value for money. Some users suggested they would switch to alternative platforms, while others blamed MultiChoice’s market dominance for the continuous price hikes.
