Mr Macaroni Slams Critics Saying He’s ‘Not Yoruba Enough’ for Rejecting APC
Popular Nigerian comedian and social activist Mr Macaroni has clapped back at supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who questioned his Yoruba identity due to his refusal to support the ruling party. In a passionate response posted on social media on May 27, he condemned the personal attacks and false narratives spread about him simply because of his political views.
Mr Macaroni, widely known for his activism and calls for justice, revealed that APC loyalists had been insulting and bullying him online. However, he pointed out that this behavior was being overlooked because it came from people supporting the government.
He stated, “I like as APC people dey insult and curse Mr Macaroni since yesterday. Nobody call am bullying! Everybody is having their fun. You can tell lies all you want, but the fact remains that I have never attacked or supported anyone to attack others for their political choices.”
He went on to firmly reject claims that he was “less Yoruba” because he doesn’t support APC. According to him, Yoruba heritage is much deeper than political affiliation and cannot be tied to any political party.
“I AM A PROUD YORUBA BOY!!! My ancestry is solid and traceable!!! Something most of you masquerading as Yoruba cannot say!” he wrote. “The shame is on those of you who have decided to politicize the Yoruba culture!”
In his post, Mr Macaroni emphasized that Yoruba identity existed long before APC and would continue long after the party fades. He urged everyone to feel free to support any party they choose, but warned against equating political support with cultural identity.
“Yoruba has been and will continue to be, even after APC or any other party. So please feel free to support APC or any other political party of your choice but do not tell me I am not Yoruba enough because I don’t support APC. APC IS NOT YORUBA AND YORUBA IS NOT APC!!! END OF DISCUSSION!”
This statement quickly drew support from many Nigerians who commended him for speaking boldly and standing his ground in the face of political bullying.
