Mr Macaroni Backs Tunde Onakoya Amid Criticism Over Visit to President Tinubu
Popular Nigerian comedian and actor Mr Macaroni has spoken in support of Tunde Onakoya, the chess master known for his work with underserved children, following the backlash he received after visiting President Bola Tinubu.
Tunde Onakoya recently met with the President to present his Guinness World Record certificate for the longest chess marathon, along with a special gold-plated Adire chess set. President Tinubu praised his work and described it as a symbol of resilience among Nigerian youth. He also expressed interest in supporting the Chess in Slums Africa initiative across the country.
But the visit quickly drew criticism online.
Many netizens accused Onakoya of associating with a government they don’t support. Some fans even compared him to Mr Macaroni, who has been known for openly criticizing the current administration and refusing to align with it.
However, Mr Macaroni made it clear that he stands with Onakoya. In a post shared on social media, he described the chess champion’s efforts as truly inspiring and important for the future of Nigeria.
“The work Tunde Onakoya is doing is not just commendable, it is tremendously inspiring!!!” Macaroni wrote. “At the end of the day, what we all want is a better country that we all can be proud of — and there are different ways to achieve that. We all must play our part.”
Why is Mr Macaroni’s statement important?
It helps calm tensions online and reminds people that change can come from many directions — through activism, education, or community empowerment.
Despite the controversy, both public figures remain focused on one goal: building a better Nigeria through their unique efforts. Tunde continues to push for youth development through chess, while Mr Macaroni uses his platform to advocate for justice and transparency.
