MI Abaga shares why being unmarried at 37 made him feel left behind

Nigerian rapper MI Abaga has shared how being single at 37 made him feel like he was falling behind in life. In a recent interview on the Jay On Air Podcast, he reflected on how watching his friends raise teenagers while he was still unmarried made him feel sad and left out.

MI, known for his hit song Bad Belle, said he had friends who married in their twenties and now have kids heading to college. He even mentioned that his brother Jesse already has a 21-year-old child, while he himself had no kids at the time.

He explained that these comparisons made him feel like he had missed out on some of life’s milestones. However, everything changed when he met his wife just before turning 40. After ending a previous relationship around age 39, he met her and proposed shortly after. She was there for his 40th birthday, and they tied the knot when he was 41.

The rapper believes that everyone has their own timeline and that people shouldn’t rush into marriage just because others have. According to him, the right relationship comes when one is truly ready.

He said meeting his wife at that stage of life made sense, and he sees it as divine timing. He also shared that if a person isn’t ready, it doesn’t matter how old they are—things won’t work out until that readiness comes.

Looking back, MI also admitted that he had hurt some good women in his past because of his own immaturity and stubbornness. He expressed regret for the way he handled those relationships but said he is now grateful to be with someone who came into his life at the right time.

His story serves as a reminder that everyone’s journey is different, and finding love doesn’t always have to follow the same path or timing as others.
