MC Oluomo Begs Tinubu and Keyamo to Lift Six-Month Flight Ban on KWAM 1
Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, has found an unlikely ally in Musiliu Akinsanya, better known as MC Oluomo, president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). MC Oluomo has appealed to President Bola Tinubu and Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo to lift the six-month flight ban placed on the singer.
The ban was announced by Festus Keyamo on August 7, 2025, after an incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on August 5. According to the minister, KWAM 1 attempted to carry a prohibited liquid, suspected to be alcohol, onto a ValueJet flight. When security officials stopped him, he reportedly moved around the tarmac in a way that blocked the aircraft from moving.
Keyamo described the act as “totally unacceptable,” comparing it to a hostage situation and a major safety breach. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) reacted by suspending the licenses of the pilots involved and blacklisting the singer for six months pending further investigation. Airlines were warned that carrying him within this period could result in losing their operating licenses.
On August 11, MC Oluomo publicly begged for mercy, describing KWAM 1 as a “prodigal son” who has admitted his mistakes and is truly sorry. He apologised on behalf of the Fuji icon to ValueJet’s management, the pilots, and the Nigerian public.
“KWAM 1 has been a cultural ambassador for more than 50 years, contributing greatly to Nigeria’s music and entertainment industry,” MC Oluomo said. “While he made a mistake, we should not throw away the baby with the bathwater.”
He urged President Tinubu, Keyamo, and the NCAA to consider KWAM 1’s legacy and lift the ban in the spirit of reconciliation. It remains to be seen if the authorities will grant MC Oluomo’s request.
