Liverpool Seal £69m Deal to Sign Frankfurt Star Hugo Ekitike
Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign talented French striker Hugo Ekitike from German club Eintracht Frankfurt for a fee of £69 million, according to multiple reports. The total amount could rise to £79 million with performance-based add-ons.
This decision came after Liverpool’s attempt to sign Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak fell through. The Magpies reportedly refused to sell the Swedish forward, valuing him at a hefty £150 million. With that door shut, the Reds turned their attention to Ekitike, who has emerged as one of Europe’s most promising young attackers.
Ekitike, 23, had an impressive season with Eintracht Frankfurt, scoring 22 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions. He joined the Bundesliga club from Paris Saint-Germain and quickly became a key player. His performance caught the attention of several top clubs, including Manchester United and Newcastle, but Liverpool are now expected to finalize the transfer.
Once the deal is complete, Ekitike is expected to join Arne Slot’s squad for their pre-season tour in Asia. The French striker was notably left out of Frankfurt’s recent friendly against FSV Frankfurt, with head coach Dino Toppmoller confirming his absence was due to his pending transfer. Toppmoller described his departure as “a bitter loss” for the team.
Liverpool are reportedly planning changes in their attack following the tragic death of forward Diogo Jota in a car accident in Spain. Additionally, there are rumours that the club is open to selling Uruguay striker Darwin Nunez. Meanwhile, Colombian forward Luis Diaz has attracted interest from Bayern Munich, although Liverpool rejected the German club’s bid.
So far this summer, Liverpool have spent £116 million on new signings, including German midfielder Florian Wirtz. The club also brought in defenders Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen and Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth. Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has also joined the squad from Valencia.
This busy transfer window signals Liverpool’s strong intent to rebuild and challenge for top honours under their new manager Arne Slot. Ekitike’s arrival is expected to bring fresh energy and goal-scoring ability to their frontline, making him a player to watch closely in the upcoming season.
