Lagos Labour Party Faces Crisis as Three Factions Invite LASIEC to Monitor Primaries

The Lagos chapter of the Labour Party (LP) is facing internal turmoil as three different factions of the party have independently invited the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to monitor their primaries for the upcoming July 12 local government elections.

This was revealed by LASIEC Chairman, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (retd.), during a stakeholders’ forum held on Thursday in Ikeja. According to her, the commission received three separate invitations from the different Labour Party groups, all claiming legitimacy to hold primaries for the elections.

“Three factions of the Labour Party in Lagos invited us to observe their primaries,” she disclosed.

Due to the ongoing dispute and division within the party, LASIEC officials did not attend or monitor any of the primaries. The electoral commission has decided to await guidance from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before determining how to proceed.

This development adds to the growing tension surrounding the local government polls, with other parties like the NNPP adopting consensus candidates, while the APC faces its own internal clashes.
