Kunle Remi Calls Nigeria Worst Stop on IShowSpeed’s African Tour
Nollywood actor Kunle Remi has described Nigeria as the “worst” stop on American streamer IShowSpeed’s ongoing African tour. He expressed disappointment over how Lagos was represented during the livestream, saying it lacked cultural depth and authenticity.
IShowSpeed celebrated his 21st birthday in Nigeria this week, a milestone marked by reaching 50 million subscribers on YouTube. His African tour, called ‘Speed Does Africa’, began on December 29, 2025, and is set to last 28 days, with Nigeria being the 15th stop.
Remi shared his opinion on Instagram, criticizing the way Lagos was shown during the tour. He said the livestream focused too much on nightlife, parties, and entertainment, rather than reflecting the true culture and heritage of Nigeria.
“After watching IShowSpeed’s journey so far, Nigeria is the worst on my own list. We just really stripped Lagos naked. No be say anything dey under the clothes before sha,” Remi wrote. He added, “Seems like we have lost the essence of culture. Our truth! All we have is fake drinks, club and beggy beggy skills.”
Remi’s comments shed light on a wider concern about how international media often presents Nigeria. Many foreign portrayals tend to highlight entertainment and celebrity lifestyle, while overlooking the country’s rich history, traditions, and social realities.
The actor’s criticism has sparked discussions online, with some agreeing that Nigerian culture is being overshadowed by a focus on flashy nightlife and superficial attractions. Others argue that Lagos, as a megacity, naturally mixes entertainment with tradition, and both sides of the story should be considered.
Fans of IShowSpeed reacted to the controversy on social media, debating whether Lagos was fairly represented. Some suggested that future livestreams could explore historical sites, local art, and cultural festivals to give viewers a deeper understanding of Nigerian life beyond clubs and parties.
As IShowSpeed continues his African tour, this criticism may influence how future stops are showcased. Experts say highlighting authentic cultural experiences can help foreign audiences appreciate the diversity and richness of African countries.
The actor’s remarks serve as a reminder that while international visits and livestreams bring attention to Nigeria, they also carry responsibility in how the country’s culture is represented to the world.
