Kiddwaya Defends Benue Appeal Amid Criticism, Says He Won’t Stop Caring

Reality TV star and billionaire heir Kiddwaya has responded to the backlash over his recent call for donations to support victims of the Benue massacre, saying he acted out of genuine concern, not clout-chasing. His appeal came after over 200 people were killed in a brutal attack that left families displaced and communities devastated.

Through the Kiddwaya Foundation, the former BBNaija housemate had urged Nigerians to donate between ₦500 and ₦500,000 to aid victims. However, the move was quickly met with criticism online, as many Nigerians questioned his sincerity, pointing to his lavish lifestyle and luxury-filled social media posts featuring private jets and exotic holidays.

Reacting to the criticism, Kiddwaya issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on June 19, saying he was aware of the negative feedback but insisted his appeal was driven by compassion.

“I’ve seen the comments. I hear the backlash. I didn’t post about Benue for clout, I posted because I genuinely care,” he wrote. “I am a Benue indigene and a proud Benue man. What’s happening there breaks my heart, and I couldn’t just look away.”

He explained that he took down the donation post not out of shame but because he recognized the pain and misunderstanding it stirred among the public. He stressed that the reactions of Nigerians, even the angry ones, mattered to him.

“I took the donation post down because I saw the pain and misunderstanding it caused—not because I’m ashamed of helping, but because I respect your voices,” he added.

Despite the backlash, Kiddwaya made it clear that he remains committed to helping those affected and will continue to use his resources, influence, and platform to make a difference.

“I will not stop caring. I will not stop showing up when lives are on the line,” he stated. “This isn’t about me. It never was. It’s about the Benue people, and I hope that when the noise fades, we’ll all remember what truly matters.”

Kiddwaya’s statement has sparked mixed reactions, with some commending his decision to speak up and support his community, while others still question the timing and presentation of his appeal.
