Kenny Ogungbe Clears the Air on Plantashun Boiz’s Split

Kenny Ogungbe, the iconic music executive and CEO of Kennis Music, has debunked longstanding rumors that he was the reason behind the breakup of the legendary music group, Plantashun Boiz.

Speculation has circulated for years that the group’s dissolution was linked to Kennis Music’s signing of 2Face Idibia, one of the group’s star members. However, speaking on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, Ogungbe, popularly known as Baba Keke, clarified the situation.

“People have been saying I’m the one responsible for the breakup of Plantashun Boiz,” he said. “That’s not true. 2Face came to me himself after the group had broken up, saying he wanted to sign with Kennis Music. Eedris Abdulkareem even encouraged me to sign him, which I did.”

Plantashun Boiz, composed of 2Face, Blackface, and Faze, were a trailblazing group in the Nigerian music scene. They officially split in 2004 after releasing their second album, Sold Out. Despite their breakup, the trio briefly reunited in 2007 to release a third album, Plan B, before parting ways again.

Ogungbe’s comments aim to put an end to the lingering speculation, affirming that the group’s breakup preceded any involvement with Kennis Music.
