Julius Berger Resumes Abuja Centenary City Project After 11-Year Break

Construction giant Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has officially resumed work on the Abuja Centenary City project, 11 years after the ambitious development was first launched. The company signed a contract to deliver Phase 1 of the project’s primary infrastructure, marking a major milestone in Abuja’s urban renewal plans.

The Centenary City project, unveiled in 2014, was conceived as a symbol of Nigeria’s vision for the new century. It is designed to be a world-class lifestyle and business hub, featuring luxury residences, five-star hotels, a championship golf course, a modern mall, the Centenary International Convention Centre, and the International Commerce Centre.

Speaking at the contract signing, Managing Director of Abuja Centenary City, Dr. Odenigwe Ike Michaels, said Julius Berger was chosen for its track record of excellence in landmark projects across Nigeria. He described the project as Abuja’s foremost urban renewal initiative, expected to attract international investors and position the Federal Capital Territory as a global business and lifestyle destination.

“Julius Berger’s reputation for quality and timely delivery speaks for itself. This contract signals the official return of construction to Centenary City after over a decade. I challenge Julius Berger to surpass its past records and deliver a truly world-class development,” Michaels said.

On his part, the Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Engr. Dr. Peer Lubasch expressed appreciation for the opportunity to handle the project. He emphasized that Centenary City is not just an urban development but an investment in Abuja’s future.

“Centenary City will be a catalyst for jobs, investment, and business opportunities. With world-class malls, hotels, leisure spaces, and a championship golf course, it will reflect Nigeria’s cultural heritage while meeting global standards. The 4.31 km dual carriageway we are delivering is the first major artery of this city, opening access to its first development phase,” Lubasch said.

He added that Julius Berger’s involvement with the project dates back to its launch in 2014, and the company has remained committed to its vision over the years. “With six decades of proven experience, we will bring precision, quality, and lasting infrastructure to ensure that Centenary City meets the expectations of both investors and residents,” he assured.
