Jim Iyke Says Single Mothers Cannot Raise Boys Into Proper Men

Nollywood actor Jim Iyke has sparked a strong online debate after saying that single mothers cannot raise boys into what he called “proper men” without the help of a male figure. The popular actor shared his opinion during an interview on Okay 101.7 FM in Accra, Ghana.

According to the actor, women are naturally loving and nurturing, but raising boys also requires discipline and strict guidance that usually comes from men. He insisted that a male influence is very important in a boy’s life.

Jim Iyke explained that a single mother should involve a trusted male relative or friend, such as a father, brother, or uncle, who can help give the boy proper direction and tough moral discipline. He said a strong male presence is needed to teach a boy how to become a strong and responsible man.

He warned that without such influence, boys could grow up to become weak men who follow the bad habits of absentee fathers. According to him, the absence of a male example may cause boys to repeat the same negative behaviors.

Jim Iyke began his acting career in 1998, starting with his first movie role in Cursed from Beyond. Over the years, he has become one of the most popular and respected actors in Nollywood.

The actor, who was born in Libreville, Gabon, revealed back in February 2022 that he is a father of three children. He also explained that he once experienced a failed marriage, but kept it private to protect his personal life from the public.

His comments on single mothers have drawn mixed reactions online, with some agreeing that boys need male role models, while others criticised his views as unfair and disrespectful to hardworking single mothers.
