JAMB Records Highest-Ever UTME Registration With Over 2.03 Million Candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that a total of 2,030,627 candidates registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), making it the highest number of applicants in the board’s history. According to JAMB’s latest weekly bulletin released in Abuja, the registration process officially closed on March 8, 2025. The board noted that this figure represents a significant increase compared to the 1.9 million candidates who registered for the 2024 UTME. However, the total number excludes candidates who registered to sit for the examination at foreign centers.

In addition to the UTME registrations, JAMB disclosed that 200,115 candidates have also expressed interest in taking the optional mock UTME, which is scheduled to hold on April 5, 2025. The mock exam serves as a preparatory test to help candidates familiarize themselves with the UTME format and procedures.

To maintain the credibility of the examination process, JAMB stated that it has implemented several innovative security measures to prevent cheating and malpractice. These new policies have already led to multiple arrests of candidates who attempted to use forged A-level results for admission into higher institutions. The board further emphasized that it remains committed to ensuring a transparent and fair admission process by enforcing strict compliance with examination regulations. Candidates are strongly advised to adhere to all UTME rules and avoid any form of misconduct during the examination.
