INEC Starts Voter Registration Nationwide from August 18 Ahead of 2025 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will begin the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) for the upcoming 2025 general elections. The registration exercise is set to begin on Monday, August 18, 2025, with online pre-registration opening first.

According to a post shared on INEC’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the online pre-registration will take place on the portal cvr.inecnigeria.org. Nigerians who are eligible can use this platform to begin their registration before completing the process in person.

For those who prefer to register physically, INEC says in-person registration will begin on Monday, August 25, 2025. This can be done at all INEC Local Government Area offices and designated registration centres across the country.

The in-person registration will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Mondays to Fridays. INEC is urging Nigerians who have not registered before or who need to update their information to take advantage of this opportunity.

INEC stated that this exercise is not only for people who have just turned 18. It is also open to those who missed past registrations, or who need to transfer their voting location, replace lost or damaged voter cards, or correct their details, such as names or date of birth.

The Commission encouraged all eligible citizens to either start the process online or visit any of its registration centers as soon as physical registration begins.

In the official statement, INEC said: “This exercise is for Nigerians who have attained voting age or those who were unable to register in previous exercises. We encourage all eligible citizens to either begin the process online or visit our offices and designated centres once the physical registration begins.”

INEC also restated its commitment to a credible and inclusive election process. It said: “Our goal is to ensure every eligible Nigerian has the opportunity to exercise their civic right. We are working to make the voter registration process accessible, transparent, and inclusive.”

As Nigeria moves closer to the 2025 elections, this announcement comes as an important reminder for all citizens to get registered and ensure they are ready to vote when the time comes.
