IBEDC Blames National Grid Shortfall for Widespread Power Outages

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has explained that the ongoing power outages affecting its service areas are due to a significant reduction in load allocation from the national grid.

In a statement released on Wednesday, IBEDC noted that the drop in energy supply has made it difficult to meet electricity demand across Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Kwara, and parts of Niger, Ekiti, and Kogi states.

The company said, “We wish to inform our esteemed customers that the current power outage and low supply being experienced is due to a drop in load allocation from the national grid. Consequently, we have had to implement stringent load-shedding measures to manage the limited power received.”

IBEDC appealed to customers for patience, assuring them that efforts are ongoing to restore normal supply once the national grid stabilizes and load allocation improves.

This announcement comes amid recurring challenges with grid instability that have plagued Nigeria’s power sector in recent months. In 2025 alone, multiple national grid collapses have left large portions of the country without electricity, disrupting homes, businesses, and economic activities.

IBEDC urged residents and businesses in affected areas to stay calm while the company and relevant stakeholders work together to ensure a consistent electricity supply is restored as quickly as possible.
