I Was Distracted – Harrysong Explains How Rift With Kcee Slowed His Music Career
Nigerian singer Harrison Okiri, popularly known as Harrysong, has revealed that his long-running dispute with fellow artiste and former label boss, Kcee, had a serious negative impact on his music career. According to the singer, the feud distracted him emotionally and creatively at a crucial stage of his journey in the Nigerian music industry.
The disagreement between Harrysong and Kcee’s record label, 5ive Star Music, became public in 2017. At the time, Harrysong accused the label of unfair treatment, including withholding his royalties and restricting his creative freedom. The issue quickly gained attention and sparked heated reactions across social media and entertainment circles.
As the dispute continued, tensions increased when Harrysong claimed he contributed to writing some of Kcee’s hit songs. This allegation led to several public exchanges between both artists, keeping the feud in the spotlight and dividing fans within the music industry.
Speaking during an interview on Jusmen 105.7 FM, Harrysong admitted that the situation took a toll on him. He explained that instead of focusing on recording new songs and improving his craft, he spent a lot of time thinking about how to respond to Kcee and defend himself publicly.
According to him, the constant back-and-forth affected his creativity and slowed down his progress. He said the emotional stress made it difficult to concentrate fully on music, which resulted in reduced output during that period of his career.
Harrysong, however, revealed that the issue has now been resolved. He confirmed that he, Kcee, and 5ive Star Music have settled their differences and moved on from the conflict. He described the resolution as a result of personal growth and maturity on all sides.
The singer also noted that he has learned valuable lessons from the experience. He said controversies no longer distract him as they used to, adding that he has developed a stronger mindset that allows him to stay focused on his music and personal development.
Reflecting on the past, Harrysong admitted that the feud affected him deeply but believes it also helped him grow. He expressed confidence that with renewed focus and peace of mind, he is now better positioned to rebuild, evolve, and move his music career forward.
“The beef with Kcee used to distract me, it used to affect the music. Instead of recording, I would be thinking of how to reply and continue the fight. So, it affected my creativity,” he said.
