How Tinubu Sent Shettima to Visit Buhari During His London Hospital Stay
Vice President Kashim Shettima has revealed a touching and personal story about an important task given to him by President Bola Tinubu during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s time in a London hospital. He shared this during the 3rd-day Fiddau prayer for Buhari in Daura, Katsina State, as part of a heartfelt tribute to the late leader.
Speaking at Buhari’s home in Daura, Shettima reflected on the strong relationship and trust between Nigeria’s top political leaders. He said that during Buhari’s medical treatment in London, President Tinubu had quietly sent him on a special mission to visit the ailing former president. It was not a public visit, but rather a private and important one that showed Tinubu’s strategic thinking and Buhari’s influence.
“When Buhari was in London for medical attention, it was Tinubu who sent me on a very sensitive mission to see him. It was not a public engagement but quiet and critical,” Shettima said.
Though Shettima did not share the full details of the mission, his words added deeper meaning to the event, connecting Nigeria’s past leadership to its present. His story also showed how close the leaders were behind the scenes and how major decisions often happen out of public view.
During the prayer ceremony, Shettima led others in offering sincere prayers for Buhari. He asked Allah to forgive Buhari and show him mercy. “May Allah guide us to continue what he stood for,” Shettima said, as those present joined him in the prayer.
The event was attended by many important figures from across Nigeria. These included Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former governors Peter Obi (Anambra), Aminu Masari (Katsina), Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), and Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun). Others at the ceremony included Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, Mamman Daura, the Emir of Daura, Faruk Faruk, and several federal ministers.
Shettima’s tribute not only honored Buhari’s legacy but also gave a rare look into a quiet moment that showed the deep trust and connection between Nigeria’s current and past leaders.
