God Asked Me to Keep My Dreadlocks to Help Save a Life – Pastor Jimmy Odukoya
Senior Pastor of Fountain of Life Church, Jimmy Odukoya, has revealed that God told him to keep his dreadlocks in order to save someone’s life. During a recent sermon, he opened up about the spiritual instruction he received before stepping fully into his pastoral role following the passing of his father, Taiwo Odukoya.
He explained that after his father’s death in 2023, he prayed for direction and asked God whether he should change his appearance, particularly his hair. The answer he got was clear—he should not cut his dreadlocks. To confirm, he also asked his sister to pray, and she came back with the same message: he was not meant to cut his hair.
According to Odukoya, this obedience played a role in touching someone’s life in a very deep way. He shared a powerful testimony about a woman from Zimbabwe who traveled all the way to Nigeria to meet him. The woman explained that back in 2016, while living in New York, she had a vision where a man with dreadlocks was preaching to her and giving her spiritual instructions.
Years later, after facing a painful divorce, losing everything, and even holding her dying mother in her arms, the woman was desperate for spiritual guidance. While searching for sermons online, she came across Pastor Jimmy’s preaching and was shocked to recognize him as the same man from her vision—complete with dreadlocks.
She told him, “People think I’m crazy when I say I’m going to Nigeria, but when I saw your video, I screamed because you were the man from my vision. I didn’t even know a pastor could have long hair.”
What touched Odukoya the most was that he didn’t even have long hair in 2016 when she had the vision. He said, “God who sees and hears knew that in 2025 one of His children would need to see a man with long hair preaching. I would have cut it if He didn’t tell me to keep it. But God was making me keep my hair to save a life.”
Pastor Jimmy’s story has sparked deep conversations among believers about obedience, divine guidance, and how God can use the smallest things—like one’s appearance—to fulfill His greater plans. His message serves as a reminder that God’s instructions often have purposes far beyond what we can immediately understand.
