FG to Build 77,400 Housing Units Nationwide to Tackle Housing Deficit

The Federal Government has announced an ambitious plan to deliver 77,400 housing units across Nigeria as part of its Renewed Hope Agenda. This large-scale housing project aims to reduce the country’s severe housing deficit and provide more affordable homes for Nigerians, especially low-income earners.

Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata, announced in a recent statement. He explained that the ministry is actively seeking external partnerships to meet its target of providing mass housing to citizens. One of the key collaborators being considered is Ms. Allen Le and Partners International Investment Consulting Joint Company.

Under this initiative, 3,000 housing units will be built in each of Lagos, Abuja, and Kano, forming part of the newly planned “Renewed Hope Cities.” In addition, 250 housing units will be constructed in each of Nigeria’s 36 states, forming part of the Renewed Hope Estates. These efforts are central to the government’s mission to make housing more accessible nationwide.

Ata also revealed that the social housing initiative would deliver 100 units in each of Nigeria’s 774 local government areas, bringing the total number to 77,400 units. He highlighted that 30 per cent of these units will be allocated to Nigerians with no income. This decision reflects President Tinubu’s strong stance on supporting vulnerable groups, even when a lower percentage was initially proposed.

The initiative is not only about shelter—it’s expected to boost employment and skills development. During a meeting with the Minister, Allen Ke Nam of SV-NED Incorporated expressed the company’s interest in investing in affordable housing. He requested land from the government to support their plans and emphasized how the partnership would generate jobs and introduce new construction methods.

Permanent Secretary of the Housing Ministry, Shuaib Belgore, also praised the collaboration, assuring the international delegation of full support and cooperation.

With the housing deficit continuing to grow, this renewed commitment from the Federal Government and international partners brings hope that more Nigerians will soon have access to decent, affordable homes.
