FG Opens Applications for 2026 PTDF Overseas Scholarships
The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially opened applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Overseas Scholarship Scheme. The programme offers Nigerian postgraduate students the chance to pursue MSc and PhD studies in leading institutions across the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia.
The announcement was made via X (formerly Twitter) by the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, confirming that applications are now open. “FG has announced the commencement of applications for 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Scholarships overseas,” the post stated.
According to the PTDF website, the scholarships are designed for candidates in disciplines relevant to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. Benefits include full tuition, return flight tickets, accommodation, living allowances, health insurance, and bench fees where applicable. The scheme aims to provide access to world-class training, research facilities, and global expertise while building local capacity in the country’s oil and gas industry.
For PhD applicants in the United Kingdom, the scholarships will follow a split-site arrangement. Research will be conducted between the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK), and selected UK universities, including Robert Gordon University, University of Strathclyde, and University of Portsmouth.
The PTDF emphasised that the scholarships are highly competitive, noting that only candidates who demonstrate outstanding academic merit and suitability will be considered. Applicants will be evaluated based on academic credentials, research proposals, professional membership, and the relevance of their studies to the oil and gas sector.
Requirements for MSc applicants include a minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) or preferably 2.1 in a first degree, completion of the NYSC programme, computer literacy, and five O’Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics. PhD applicants must submit a research proposal of up to five pages detailing objectives, methodology, and data collection approaches.
All applicants must ensure their National Identity Number (NIN) is verified before submission. Multiple applications or submission of falsified documents will lead to automatic disqualification, the PTDF warned.
Interested candidates can apply online via scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng for approved programmes at PTDF partner institutions. The closing date for submissions is 27th February 2026, and students are encouraged to carefully follow all application guidelines to improve their chances of success.
