FG Gives IBEDC Seven Days to Reconsider 3,000 Sacked Workers

The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) and its outsourcing firm to renegotiate the recent dismissal of 3,000 workers. The directive was given by the Oyo State Comptroller of the Ministry, Festus Igbinosun, during a meeting involving IBEDC management, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the outsourcing firm, and representatives of the affected employees.

Igbinosun stressed that resolving the matter within the stipulated time frame was crucial for maintaining industrial peace in Oyo State. He urged all parties to find an amicable solution that considers both the workers’ welfare and the company’s operational needs.

The mass dismissal has drawn criticism from labour unions, with the state NLC Chairman, Kayode Martins, condemning the move for not following due process. He insisted that IBEDC and the outsourcing firm reinstate the affected workers as part of the renegotiation efforts, emphasizing the importance of fair labour practices.
