Fans Confident as Super Falcons Eye Historic 10th WAFCON Title

As the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) approaches, Nigerian football fans are rallying behind the Super Falcons, expressing full confidence that the team will secure their record-extending 10th title. The optimism follows Nigeria’s strong performance in their preparatory matches, including a 3–1 win over Ghana.

In Aba, football lovers who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria voiced their belief that the Super Falcons, under the guidance of Coach Justin Madugu, are well-prepared to dominate the tournament set to kick off in Morocco. Many pointed to the team’s mix of young talent and experienced players as a major advantage.

Nneka Innocent praised the squad’s unity and resilience, noting their impressive display against Ghana and their ability to hold Portugal to a goalless draw in an earlier friendly. She emphasized that the players should now shift their focus from friendly match results and concentrate on the main competition.

“We have young players who are hungry for glory, and my only advice is for the players to put the friendly match results aside and pay attention to the WAFCON matches,” she said.

Another supporter, Ndudim Isaac, described the Falcons as a dominant force in African women’s football, citing their history of consistent appearances and championship wins. He highlighted their recent victory over Ghana as proof of their current strength.

“For the Super Falcons to beat one of the best teams in Africa, Ghana by 3-1, they will top their group and defeat other teams to get to the final,” he added.

Ugochukwu Obasi echoed similar sentiments, stating that the Falcons are clear favourites to lift the trophy. However, he warned the players not to underestimate any opponents and to stay focused from start to finish.

“Every match counts. They should treat all teams equally and not be overconfident. They must go all out from the first whistle to the last,” Obasi advised.

The Super Falcons will open their campaign against Tunisia in Group B, before facing Botswana and Algeria. Fans believe that if the team maintains discipline and composure, they can dominate the group and go on to win the final, scheduled for July 26.
