Family Announces Burial Arrangements for Late Singer Nanyah

The family of Abuja-based singer Ifunanya Nwangene, popularly known as Nanyah, has announced the arrangements for her final burial rites. The 26-year-old singer, who was from Enugu State, passed away last month after suffering a snake bite at her residence, a loss that has left her loved ones and fans in deep sorrow.

According to a statement released by the family, funeral activities will begin on Tuesday with a service of songs at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Abule Oshun, Lagos. The event is expected to bring together friends, relatives, and well-wishers who want to honour her life through music and prayers.

A requiem mass and an hour of hymns in her memory will be held on February 12. The solemn ceremony will reflect her strong faith and deep involvement in church music, which was a major part of her life from a young age.

The burial activities will then move to her home state. On February 13, a wake keep will take place at the Nwangene family compound in Enugu, where community members are expected to gather to pay their last respects. Her burial is scheduled for February 14 in her hometown, followed by a Thanksgiving service on February 15 to conclude the rites.

This announcement follows an emotional tribute held earlier in the week by members of the Amemuso Choir. During the gathering, friends and family celebrated her life with songs and heartfelt memories, highlighting her impact as both a singer and a kind-hearted person.

Speaking at the tribute, her brother described Nanyah as a resilient and exceptional individual who always stood out. He said she excelled in everything she did from childhood and remained strong even in her final moments, while also expressing pain over the challenges she faced in getting medical care.

Although she was not widely known in the mainstream music industry, Nanyah built a loyal fan base of nearly 40,000 followers on Instagram. Her music blended classical, jazz, R&B, and soul, showing her versatility and passion for different sounds.

Nanyah was a graduate of the University of Nigeria, Enugu, where she served as choir mistress at St. Mulumba’s Catholic Chaplaincy and was an active member of the Amemuso Choir. She also gained national attention when she participated in The Voice Nigeria about four years ago, leaving behind a legacy of talent, faith, and dedication.
