Falz Slams Nigeria’s Slow Progress in 2025 Over Power Failures and Mental Health Crisis

Popular Nigerian rapper and activist Folarin Falana, widely known as Falz, has strongly criticized Nigeria’s continued struggle with basic infrastructure and services in 2025. In a recent interview with HipTV, he expressed disappointment that citizens are still grappling with issues like electricity outages and poor drainage systems.

Falz described the electricity situation in Nigeria as “wild,” stating that people are still shouting “up-nepa” when power is restored — a phrase that has long symbolized the country’s unreliable power supply. He noted that it is unacceptable for the nation to still face such challenges in this day and age.

He also highlighted the recurring problem of flooding, especially in urban areas. According to Falz, even a light rainfall often results in heavy flooding, forcing people to navigate through waterlogged streets. He called the situation embarrassing and a clear sign of failed governance over the years.

Falz didn’t stop at physical infrastructure. He turned the spotlight on mental health, particularly in the entertainment industry. Describing the environment as “mad,” he pointed out that many individuals are silently battling psychological challenges with little or no access to mental health care or support.

In a more personal revelation, Falz shared a story about a failed romantic date where he had arranged a fancy dinner and flowers for someone he admired, only to be turned down after the meal. He admitted that the experience was painful and unexpected, offering fans a glimpse into his emotional side.

Speaking about his father, respected human rights lawyer Femi Falana, Falz reflected on how people used to assume his success came easily. However, he emphasized that he built his career independently. He proudly stated that today, his father is often referred to as “Falz’s dad,” a sign that he has successfully carved his path.

Falz’s comments have sparked discussions online, as many Nigerians agree with his views on the nation’s lack of progress. His outspokenness continues to reflect the frustrations of a generation hoping for real change and better leadership.
