Falz Reveals Why He Might Not Raise His Children in Nigeria

Nigerian rapper and activist Falz, born Folarin Falana, has shared that he may not raise his future children in Nigeria. The ‘This Is Nigeria’ artist explained that his fears stem from growing security concerns, economic instability, and the personal risks that come with being an outspoken activist.

Falz made the statement during a recent appearance on the Dear Ife Series Podcast, hosted by Ifedayo Agoro. When asked whether he would consider raising his children in Nigeria, Falz appeared visibly caught off guard by the question but answered with honesty.

“Ah! That’s a deep question,” he said with a surprised tone. “I didn’t expect to hear this. I haven’t really thought that far, let me not lie. But it’s something I can’t outrightly say ‘yes’ to because of what we’re talking about—the insecurity in the country, the threats I face because of my activism, and even Nigerians’ overall lack of response to certain issues.”

He admitted that it’s a sad reality to consider, especially as someone passionate about the country. “I can’t also outrightly say ‘no’ because I’m very pro-Nigerian. I believe we can get it right someday. But honestly, I don’t know. Let’s just see,” he said with a laugh.

Though Falz has no children yet and remains single, his words reflect the concerns of many young Nigerians who are worried about the nation’s future. Known for using his music and platform to speak out on social and political issues, Falz has been vocal about injustices, from police brutality to corruption.

His latest comment adds to ongoing conversations about brain drain, national insecurity, and the tough decisions young Nigerians are forced to make about where and how to build a safe life for their families.

While he hasn’t made a firm decision, Falz’s remarks have sparked fresh discussions on social media about the hopes and fears of raising a family in today’s Nigeria.
