Ex-Tinubu Aide Aliyu Audu Vows to Campaign Against President’s Re-election in 2027
Former Senior Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Public Affairs, Aliyu Audu, has openly declared his intention to oppose Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, saying his conscience no longer allows him to support the current administration.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday, Audu confirmed he had resigned from his post, stating that staying in the administration would contradict his values and what he believes Nigeria truly needs.
“It’s a matter of principle and living for something greater than oneself. I would rather face an uncertain future than be certain about an immoral today,” Audu said during the interview.
He criticised the Tinubu administration for what he described as a shift from campaign promises to politics of revenge and personal interests. Audu accused the government of failing to build the inclusive Nigeria it promised and instead prioritising political payback over national unity.
He referenced the political alliance between Tinubu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, calling it initially justifiable but now questionable. He also compared Tinubu’s leadership style to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, whom Tinubu himself once resisted in the early 2000s.
Audu said:
“We were to unite the country and relieve the people in victory. But our leading figure is now prioritising revenge over collective progress.”
When asked whether Tinubu’s recent comments about building a one-party state influenced his decision, Audu responded:
“It confirmed it on one hand and strengthened my resolve on the other. I couldn’t remain in his government while plotting his removal. Because I will.”
He concluded his remarks with a bold vow:
“By God, we will remove President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. We will reinstall a leader chosen by the people, not imposed. It won’t be Emi lo kan — it will be Gbogbo wa lo kan (It’s everyone’s turn).”
