Ebenezer Obey Refutes Death Rumours: ‘I Am Alive’

Nigerian music legend Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi has publicly dismissed the death rumours that spread about him, affirming that he is alive, well, and in good health. In a video posted on Tuesday morning, the iconic musician performed a spirited song to debunk the false claims.

In the video, Obey-Fabiyi, known for his legendary contributions to Nigerian music, sang in a mixture of Yoruba, English, and Pidgin, addressing the rumours head-on. He sang, “Hello, my name is Professor Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi. Satan, you don lose o, Satan, you don lose o, you don pafuka. Na lie lie you dey talk, you don pafuka.” The singer then clarified, “It is fake news that started a few hours ago claiming that I, Evangelist Obey, have passed on to glory. It is a lie. I am alive, and that is not the word Jesus has written.”

The rumour of his death, which went viral on Monday, had caused concern among fans, with many expressing their sorrow on social media. However, Obey’s personal assistant, Tope Olukole, swiftly dismissed the claims in a TVC interview on Monday evening, reassuring the public that the legendary musician was in good health. “Let’s set the record straight: Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi is alive and thriving!” Olukole stated. “He recently celebrated a joyous occasion — the 50th birthday of his second child’s spouse. Rumours of his passing are baseless and entirely unfounded. We’re glad to see him active and well.”
