Dr. Busola Tejumola Named Head of General Entertainment at MultiChoice Group
MultiChoice Group has promoted Dr. Busola Tejumola to the position of Executive Head of General Entertainment Channels, a major move aimed at reinforcing the company’s leadership in African storytelling across its DStv and GOtv platforms.
Her appointment, announced via LinkedIn, marks a significant leadership change for the African pay-TV giant and highlights the company’s strategic focus on creating more localized content for its over 20 million subscribers.
Before this new role, Dr. Tejumola served as Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels, where she shaped MultiChoice’s content strategy for the region. She joined the company in 2012 as a Consumer Insights Manager, where she used data to better understand viewer behavior and guide business decisions.
With over a decade of service at MultiChoice, she has held various leadership positions, including leading Strategy and Insights, and serving as General Manager of Production at Africa Magic. During that time, she helped oversee major productions like Big Brother Naija, Tinsel, Ajoche, and the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
Dr. Tejumola’s appointment is part of MultiChoice’s response to increased competition from both global and local streaming services. By putting a seasoned content expert at the helm of its entertainment channels, the company aims to stay relevant in a rapidly evolving media landscape.
Speaking about her new role, she said, “My consistent focus has been the business sustainability and profitability of MultiChoice Nigeria, with content at the forefront. Delivering on customer expectations through quality data and deep local understanding remains key.”
Her academic background is just as impressive. She holds a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from Brunel University London, a Master’s degree from the University of Surrey, and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Ibadan. She also received senior leadership training from Duke Corporate Education.
Tejumola’s elevation reflects a broader trend in the industry—appointing experienced insiders who understand local audiences to guide programming decisions. Her leadership is expected to strengthen MultiChoice’s push for more African stories created by African talent.
With her now in charge of general entertainment, including the flagship Africa Magic channels, MultiChoice is doubling down on the power of authentic African storytelling to maintain its market leadership.
