Deyemi Okanlawon Says Filming in Japan Was Life’s Best Experience
Nollywood actor Deyemi Okanlawon has described his recent work in Japan as the best experience of his life. In March 2025, Deyemi made his debut in Japan’s entertainment industry after visiting Tokyo with his family.
The actor partnered with NHK Japan, one of the country’s largest networks, to film a sci-fi television series. Deyemi shared that he was chosen to play an African character after the producers did their research. He spent three months filming and praised the Japanese spirit of excellence.
He said, “I just got back from filming a sci-fi television series in Japan. They needed an African character, did their research, and called me on board. It was the best experience of my life. If there is anything you know about the Japanese, it is that they have the spirit of excellence.”
On a different note, Deyemi recently criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for targeting Nigerian celebrities over currency abuse cases. He spoke out after several entertainers, including businessman E-Money and singer Terry Apala, were arrested or questioned for similar offenses.
Deyemi told the ‘Nollywood On Radio’ show that the EFCC should focus more on fighting corruption among politicians and officials. He said, “If the EFCC operatives are clamping down on corrupt officials, politicians, or organizations, Nigerians will believe they are working in their best interest.”
