Denny Zee Explains Why He Took a Break from Music and Announces New Single ‘Werk’

Afrobeats singer, songwriter, and producer Denny Zee has opened up about why he took a short break from the music scene. The Lagos-born artist, who hails from Epe, had been away from the spotlight for nearly two years but has returned with a new single titled “Werk.”

Denny Zee described “Werk” as a song that will surpass the success of his previous hits like “Joh,” “Bana,” and “Tender.” The single marks the start of a new phase in his career, featuring a bold sound and refreshed artistic identity.

Previously signed to Nuul Gang, a Sweden-based record label owned by an international DJ, Denny Zee gained global recognition through collaborations and international releases, expanding his reach beyond Nigeria.

Speaking about his break, Denny Zee said, “I took the short break to strategize, and now I’m stepping into a new era of rebranding, redefining my identity and sound. My upcoming projects — including new singles and a highly anticipated EP — will deliver a richer, bolder expression of my message: joy, hustle, struggle, resilience, and the unapologetic pursuit of dreams.”

He added, “I’m standing at the intersection of soul and sound — a singer, songwriter, and producer shaping the next wave of Afro music with authenticity, creativity, and unshakable drive. I’m open to collaboration and new sonic adventures. I’m not just chasing success; I’m building a legacy, one record at a time.”

Denny Zee’s musical journey began in Lagos, supported by his musically inclined brothers. His passion and discipline helped him turn raw talent into a craft that now bridges continents and generations.
