Dbanj Reveals Don Jazzy Led the Mohits Split and Returned His Full Music Catalog

Nigerian music star D’banj has opened up about the real reason behind the breakup of the iconic Mo’Hits Records, and he revealed that Don Jazzy was the one who decided that their partnership should end. The singer shared this surprising story while speaking on Seun Okinbaloye’s Mic On podcast, where he explained that Don Jazzy “100 per cent” initiated the separation back in 2012. According to him, the decision came from Don Jazzy himself, and he simply agreed to follow the path that destiny had created for them.

D’banj explained during the interview that Don Jazzy not only asked for the split but also handed over his entire music catalog to him after they parted ways. He said this act of generosity made it possible for their last major song together, “Oliver Twist,” to go global and achieve massive success. The song later became one of the biggest Afrobeats exports at the time, garnering international attention and propelling both of their careers to new heights.

The singer noted that he has no regrets about the split because he believes everything that happened was “predestined.” He said some things in life are meant to happen, and Mo’Hits ending was part of their journey. Instead of holding on to negative feelings, D’banj said he focused on growth, new opportunities, and the positive lessons that came with that season of his life.

While he remains grateful for how things turned out, D’banj admitted that he truly misses creating music with Don Jazzy. He described their studio bond as special and said they made magic together whenever they worked on a project. Their chemistry, he explained, could be felt in the songs they produced, which made Mo’Hits one of the greatest record labels in Nigerian music history.

D’banj also used the interview to appreciate Don Jazzy for always being supportive and for treating him with love even during the separation. He said returning his full catalog was a huge blessing that many artists may never experience in their careers. That act alone showed how much trust and respect existed between them, even when they chose to end their partnership.

The singer added that he fully respects Don Jazzy’s decision at the time, acknowledging that the producer acted based on what he felt was right for both of them. D’banj said their friendship has remained strong over the years, and there has never been bitterness between them. He believes that both of them needed to grow in different directions, which has allowed them to become the legends they are today.
