Davido Recalls 50 Cent Once Refused to Take a Photo With Him

Afrobeats star Davido has shared a personal memory about his very first meeting with American rap legend 50 Cent. Speaking during a new episode of The Breakfast Club, Davido revealed that when he was just a teenager, 50 Cent turned down his request to take a photo.

According to Davido, the moment happened in Las Vegas when he was only 14 years old. His family had traveled to celebrate his elder brother’s 21st birthday, but as the youngest, he wasn’t allowed to join in all the activities. Left to himself in the hotel lobby, he got a rare chance to meet some of his music idols.

He explained, “My brother was turning 21, my dad took everybody to Vegas but I was 14 so I can’t do nothing. I was just sitting in the lobby. I used to love Lloyd Banks, he was my favourite. So, I saw him and I went to him and took a picture. Then I saw 50 Cent and said in Nigerian accent, ‘Wow! 50 Cent, I love you. Can I have a picture?’ He said, ‘No’ and just walked off.”

Years later, after Davido rose to stardom, he reminded 50 Cent about the encounter. According to him, the rapper laughed and responded, “You are here now, right?”

Despite that early rejection, Davido and 50 Cent have gone on to form a bond. In fact, 50 Cent brought Davido out as a surprise performer during his show at Madison Square Garden in New York, a gesture that proved how far Davido has come in his music career.

The two artists are now preparing to share the stage again, this time co-headlining a major concert in London later in the year, alongside R&B icon Mary J. Blige.

Davido’s story shows how dreams can come true—even if the journey starts with disappointment. What began as a sad moment in a hotel lobby turned into a full-circle moment years later, reminding everyone that perseverance can lead to powerful success.
