Davido Gets $300K Gift from Dad After Atlanta Show Amid Lawsuit Battle
Afrobeats sensation Davido has shared that his billionaire father, Adedeji Adeleke, gave him a $300,000 gift following his recent show in Atlanta. The singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, made this known in a recent interview, expressing appreciation for the surprise financial support from his dad.
Even with his own wealth and success, Davido admitted that his father still supports him financially. He described the moment warmly, saying, “If I tell you my dad doesn’t give me money, I’d be lying. As he should—I’m his baby! Of course, my dad gives me a check.” He added that after the show, his dad called to congratulate him and then handed him the generous amount.
However, while Davido is celebrating this heartwarming gesture, he is also facing a legal battle in the United States. A federal court in Manhattan has given him 21 days to respond to a lawsuit filed by four Nigerian artists who accuse him of stealing their song.
The lawsuit, obtained by Peoples Gazette, claims that Davido used parts of a 2022 song titled “Work,” originally sent to him for a possible collaboration. The artists—Martins Chukwuka Emmanuel, Abel Great Umaru, Kelvin Ayodele Campbell, and David Ovhioghena Umaru—allege that instead of working with them, Davido gave the material to another artist, Emmerson, who then sampled their vocals and instrumentals to create the 2024 track “Strawberry on Ice.”
Despite initially settling in March 2025, where Davido reportedly agreed to pay $45,000 and split royalties with the artists, the plaintiffs say he failed to meet the agreed terms by the March 24 deadline. They are now asking the court for $150,000 in damages, as well as ownership rights to the song.
The lawsuit also includes other co-defendants involved in creating and distributing “Strawberry on Ice,” including Emmerson, Carlos Jenkins, Matthew Quinney, Marques Miles II, and Wynn Records. The plaintiffs seek legal action to stop further infringement and protect their intellectual property.
