Davido Explains Why He Collaborated With Omah Lay After Hate Rumours
Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, has explained the real reason behind his collaboration with fellow Nigerian singer Omah Lay, saying it was meant to clear the wrong idea that he disliked him.
The Afrobeats star made this known during a recent interview, where he spoke about how the misunderstanding started and how it later turned into a successful music partnership. Davido said he was surprised when he found out that Omah Lay once believed he hated him, even though they had never met before.
According to Davido, the situation started in 2024 when American streamer Kai Cenat visited Nigeria. While Davido was driving Kai to a club, one of Omah Lay’s songs played in the car. Kai asked who the artist was, and Davido immediately praised Omah Lay, calling him a hot and talented musician.
Davido said Omah Lay later reacted on social media, expressing surprise that Davido liked his music. In the tweet, Omah Lay admitted that he had always thought Davido did not like him. Davido said he saw the tweet and decided to send Omah Lay a direct message to clear things up.
In his words, Davido told Omah Lay, “Why would you think I hate you? We have never even met before.” He explained that the message opened the door for proper communication between them, and they later exchanged phone numbers.
Davido revealed that after connecting, they started sharing music ideas and recording songs together. He said they recorded about four songs in total, but Omah Lay later chose “With You” as the best one to release to the public.
The song “With You” became one of the standout tracks on Davido’s fifth studio album titled 5ive. The track was well received by fans and music lovers across Africa and beyond, further proving the strong chemistry between both artistes.
Davido also confirmed that the song has been nominated for Best African Music Performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards, marking another major achievement for both singers.
The collaboration has since been praised by fans, who see it as a positive example of unity and mutual respect in the Nigerian music industry.
