Dangote Denies Involvement in Viral Bike-Based Fuel Distribution Video
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has denied any connection to a viral video suggesting it is distributing petrol using motorbike riders. The company told reporters on Sunday that it has no link to the video and is unaware of its origin. The video circulated online showing a man ordering petrol via WhatsApp, after which a rider arrived on a bike with a mini fuel dispenser.
The video, which some experts say might have been created with AI, claimed the project, called “FuelUp,” was powered by Dangote Petroleum. As the video spread, some Nigerians praised the concept for convenience, while others expressed concern about safety risks. The refinery, however, has clarified that the video is fake.
Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Communication Officer at Dangote, told our correspondent, “Fake! We are not in any way associated with this.” Another Dangote official added that the refinery only supplies fuel to bulk buyers and has not partnered with any company to distribute petrol via motorbikes.
Dangote recently introduced hundreds of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks for direct fuel distribution, which began in September. This initiative is part of the refinery’s legal and regulated logistics operations to supply fuel efficiently to large consumers. The bike-based distribution video is unrelated to these official operations.
The refinery is also preparing to increase its production capacity from 650,000 to 1.4 million barrels per day. Located in the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos State, Dangote Petroleum Refinery is one of the largest integrated refineries in the world. The expansion is part of the company’s plan to meet rising domestic fuel demand and boost Nigeria’s energy supply.
In addition, Dangote has invested in modern technologies to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact. The refinery is automating its processes, using cleaner energy sources, and strengthening its logistics infrastructure. These steps aim to ensure safe, sustainable, and efficient fuel distribution across Nigeria.
The planned increase in production will not only enhance domestic fuel supply but also strengthen Dangote’s position as a leading energy player in Africa. By doubling output, the refinery hopes to meet growing consumption needs and support regional integration in the oil and gas sector.
Dangote’s statement clarifies that while innovation and technology are part of its growth strategy, the viral bike fuel distribution concept is false. The company continues to focus on safe, legal, and efficient methods of supplying fuel to meet Nigeria’s energy demands.
