Carney Chukwuemeka Completes Permanent Move from Chelsea to Borussia Dortmund

Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka has completed a permanent transfer to Borussia Dortmund, ending his two-year stay at Stamford Bridge. The 21-year-old has now joined the Bundesliga side after impressing during his loan spell in Germany last season.

Chukwuemeka first signed for Chelsea from Aston Villa in August 2022. Since then, he featured in 32 matches for the Blues’ first team and scored two goals. Though his time in West London showed promise, limited playing opportunities pushed him toward a new challenge abroad.

The midfielder, who also represents England’s Under-21 national team, made only five appearances for Chelsea during the 2024/25 season. His last game in a Chelsea shirt came in the UEFA Conference League victory over Astana, marking the end of his contributions for the club.

In January 2025, he was loaned to Borussia Dortmund for the second half of the season. During that loan spell, Chukwuemeka featured in 17 matches, including four appearances at the Club World Cup, where Chelsea ultimately emerged champions. His strong performances caught the attention of Dortmund, who made the move permanent.

For Dortmund, Chukwuemeka’s arrival adds more depth to their midfield as the German side continues to strengthen ahead of the new season. His versatility and youthful energy are expected to boost their squad both in domestic competitions and on the European stage.

Chukwuemeka’s move follows a trend of young English players joining Bundesliga clubs in search of regular first-team football. Dortmund has a strong history of developing talent, and the 21-year-old will be looking to follow in the footsteps of other young stars who have thrived there.

Fans of both clubs will now be watching closely to see how Chukwuemeka adapts permanently to life in Germany. His transfer represents not just a new chapter for his career but also a chance to showcase his full potential on one of Europe’s biggest football stages.
