Bovi Explains Why He No Longer Works Closely With Basketmouth

Popular Nigerian comedian and actor, Bovi Ugboma, has spoken out about his relationship with fellow comedian Basketmouth, making it clear that there is no bad blood between them. Instead, he explained that their careers naturally took different directions as their interests evolved.

In a recent interview, Bovi said that his decision not to continue collaborating with Basketmouth was simply a matter of personal growth and self-discovery. According to him, he easily gets bored with routine and has always felt the need to try new things. This mindset pushed him to build his personal brand, explore acting and film, and establish himself as an independent force in the entertainment industry.

Bovi stressed that his goal has always been to show the world that he can stand alone on stage, hold the microphone, and entertain audiences without relying on partnerships. He explained that branching out on his own allowed him to strengthen his identity as a comedian and gain recognition for his individual talent.

He also revealed that financial independence played a big role in his decision. Using the example of headlining shows, Bovi questioned why he should split profits when he could successfully fill venues like Eko Hotel on his own. “Why should I go and share money? Why should we be many doing one show when I can keep all the money myself?” he asked.

Despite the shift, Bovi maintained that he remains on good terms with Basketmouth. He clarified that nothing negative happened between them, but rather, his changing priorities made him focus on personal projects, spending more time with his family, and exploring new opportunities in the entertainment space.

The comedian has since expanded beyond stand-up, venturing into film and television. This move, he said, was necessary to keep his creativity alive and avoid being confined to one path. His decision reflects his belief in constant reinvention and his desire to stay relevant in a fast-changing industry.

Bovi’s remarks also shed light on the broader challenges entertainers face when balancing collaboration and independence. While working with others can bring success, many artists eventually choose to go solo to maximize their brand value and financial returns.

For Bovi, the journey has been about growth, self-sufficiency, and showing fans that he has what it takes to succeed on his own terms. His story highlights how important it is for entertainers to carve out their own path while maintaining respect for past collaborations.
