Bobrisky Says Other Crossdressers Lost Fame After He Left Nigeria

Controversial Nigerian social media personality and crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has claimed that other crossdressers who imitate his style have lost public attention since he left Nigeria.

Bobrisky, who relocated abroad in November 2024 to focus on his mental health, made the statement on Tuesday via his social media platforms. He suggested that his exit negatively affected those who had been riding on his fame. “Since I left Nigeria, the crossdressers who were copying me have gone into extinction. I was helping them become famous, but now they have turned into followers with minimal engagement,” he posted.

The controversial figure first rose to prominence in 2016, bringing crossdressing into Nigeria’s social media spotlight. His influence has inspired other personalities, including James Brown, and helped establish crossdressing as a notable part of Nigeria’s entertainment industry. Bobrisky is reportedly worth over one million dollars, making him the wealthiest known cross-dresser in Nigeria.

His departure from Nigeria followed a series of legal issues. In April 2024, Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in prison for naira abuse after pleading guilty to four counts of currency abuse, linked to videos of him throwing money at events. After his release in August 2024, controversy resurfaced when activist VeryDarkMan released an audio recording allegedly implicating him in bribing EFCC officials—a claim he denied and vowed to contest legally.

In March 2025, Bobrisky officially relocated to a country where he is legally recognized as female and receives respect. He expressed frustration with Nigerian authorities and emphasized his desire to start a new chapter abroad.

Bobrisky’s comments also touch on ongoing rivalries within Nigeria’s crossdressing community. Previously, in August 2021, crossdressers Jay Boogie and Buchi Alexandra criticized him in a viral Instagram video after he mocked others attempting to emulate his style.

While crossdressing itself is not illegal in Nigeria, debates about its cultural and social implications persist. Despite living abroad, Bobrisky remains a polarizing and influential figure in the Nigerian social media entertainment space, with his statements sparking conversation among fans and followers.
