BBNaija’s Uriel Says Finding a Decent Man in Nigeria Is Very Hard

Former Big Brother Naija star Uriel Oputa has opened up about the difficulties women face when trying to find decent men in Nigeria. In a recent appearance on the Outside the Box podcast, Uriel expressed her frustration, saying dating Nigerian men is very complicated and emotionally exhausting. She said many of them believe there is always something better, which makes it hard to build long-term relationships. Uriel said she once felt desperate to get married, but a painful experience with a man made her rethink everything.

She revealed that her past relationship left her deeply hurt, joking that the man “showed her crocodile pepper,” a Nigerian way of describing intense emotional pain. She shared that her experience is not unique, as many beautiful, successful women in Nigeria—some even in their late 30s or early 40s—are still single, not because they want to be, but because they struggle to find men who are truly ready and respectful.

Uriel also criticized Nigeria’s culture of age-shaming, especially towards women. She said many women feel like “expired milk” once they pass a certain age, which puts unnecessary pressure on them to marry quickly. She has been very vocal about this issue and encourages women to reject that mindset and live confidently, regardless of age.

The reality star believes the culture of always searching for something better is hurting relationships in Nigeria. She said people need to stop thinking they can always find someone more attractive or successful and instead learn to appreciate the person they are with.

Uriel’s comments have sparked discussions on social media, with many women agreeing with her and sharing similar struggles. Her words shed light on the emotional challenges many Nigerian women face in dating and marriage, especially when they’re expected to marry young or face judgment.
