BBNaija Star Kaybobo Reveals His Mother Initially Opposed His Basketball Career

Former Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) Season 10 housemate Kayode Oladele, popularly known as Kaybobo, has revealed that his mother initially did not want him to pursue basketball. He shared that it was only after his coach, Tayo Awojurin, intervened that she gave him her full support.

Kaybobo spoke during a session with members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ekiti State chapter, in Ado-Ekiti. The BBNaija star, who hails from Ado-Ekiti, shared his journey from playing basketball in secondary school to gaining international recognition, attributing much of his success to his coach’s guidance.

He played basketball for Christ School and All Souls Secondary School in Ado-Ekiti, a journey that eventually led him to Lagos and later overseas, where he earned university degrees and built his career.

“My coach’s training and unconditional support transformed my career path from Ekiti to Lagos and overseas. This is why I returned home—to give back to the youths in Ekiti who are passionate about sports and other creative fields like entertainment and fashion,” Kaybobo said.

Through his Kaybobo Youth Foundation, he assured young people in Ekiti of his commitment to nurturing talents and helping them become professional athletes. He also encouraged parents to support their children’s sporting interests unconditionally.

Kaybobo shared, “My mummy did not want me to play basketball then. It was through Coach Awojurin’s intervention that she was convinced, or I would not have reached the level I am today.”

In addition to sports, Kaybobo plans to invest in fashion, entertainment, tourism, and arts to promote all sectors in Ekiti State. During the event, he presented 20 customized caps to SWAN members and pledged ongoing support for sports development in the state.

The Chairman of SWAN, Qozeem Oladapo, thanked Kaybobo for his generosity and assured him that the association would provide full support to promote his foundation and develop sports in Ekiti.
