Bayern Munich land Luis Díaz from Liverpool in €75m blockbuster transfer

Bayern Munich have officially signed Colombian winger Luis Díaz from Premier League champions Liverpool in a major €75 million deal. The Bundesliga giants confirmed the move on Wednesday, making Díaz one of their most expensive signings in club history. The 28-year-old forward has agreed to a contract that will keep him in Munich until 2029.

Díaz, who helped Liverpool win the Premier League, FA Cup, and two League Cups during his time at Anfield, was a key figure under both Jürgen Klopp and his successor Arne Slot. His transfer fee ranks as the third-highest Bayern Munich has ever paid, trailing only the deals for Harry Kane and Lucas Hernandez.

Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen praised the club’s latest addition, saying, “In Luis Díaz, we have succeeded in bringing in one of the best left-wingers in the Premier League. He brings real character from Liverpool to Bayern — he’s won silverware with every club he’s played for.”

Reacting to the move, Díaz expressed his excitement, saying, “It means a lot to me to be part of FC Bayern. They’re one of the biggest clubs in the world. My goal is to win every possible title, and that’s what we’ll work for every day as a team.”

In a heartfelt message on social media, Díaz thanked Liverpool and their fans, stating that he would “treasure forever” the memories from his time in England. He made 50 appearances last season across all competitions, scoring 17 goals and providing eight assists. His 13 Premier League goals placed him second only to Mohamed Salah among Liverpool’s top scorers.

The Colombian star’s arrival comes at a crucial time for Bayern, who recently lost Jamal Musiala to a long-term injury and saw veteran forward Thomas Müller exit the club, with Leroy Sané moving to Galatasaray. Díaz is expected to fill the gap left in Bayern’s attack and could make his first appearance on Saturday in a friendly against Lyon.

Díaz began his international career in 2018 and has since earned 64 caps for Colombia, scoring 18 goals. He joined Liverpool from FC Porto in January 2022, quickly becoming a fan favorite with his pace, skill, and goal-scoring ability.

Now under the guidance of new head coach Vincent Kompany, Díaz will train with his new teammates in Munich, with expectations high that he will play a central role in Bayern’s pursuit of domestic and European glory.
