Anambra 2025 Soludo Says APC Has No Base and Vows to Contest Like Underdog
Ahead of the Anambra 2025 governorship election, Governor Charles Soludo has confidently dismissed the chances of the All Progressives Congress (APC), claiming the party has no political foundation in the state.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time show on Wednesday, Soludo, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), argued that the APC has never gained significant support in Anambra. He said his party would still approach the election with full seriousness, treating it as a contest where they must fight like underdogs.
Soludo questioned the assumption that APC’s federal strength could influence the election. Using recent elections in Imo, Kogi, and Edo as examples, he said those states had a clear APC presence, unlike Anambra.
“In Imo and Kogi, APC incumbents got re-elected. In Edo, the APC held Senate and House of Assembly seats. But in Anambra, APC doesn’t have even a councillor. Not one. In past elections, they barely scored up to 3–4% of the votes. You can’t build something on nothing,” he said.
Despite his confidence, the governor said APGA would not relax. “Every election is a contest. We will approach it like underdogs. It is not a joke. People should come out and vote,” Soludo added.
He also expressed faith in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the President, and the federal government, saying they would provide a fair and peaceful electoral process.
Soludo assured that he remains focused on governance, highlighting his administration’s achievements. He mentioned progress in security, healthcare, education, and infrastructure, especially reducing the number of out-of-school children in the state.
As the 2025 elections approach, Soludo said APGA is ready to campaign hard and earn the people’s support again through performance and strong grassroots connections.
