AFCON 2025: Davido and Peller Lose Big Bets as Super Eagles Fall to Morocco
Afrobeats superstar Davido and popular Nigerian TikToker Peller suffered losses on Wednesday after Nigeria’s Super Eagles were defeated by host nation Morocco in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final.
The match ended 0-0 after regulation and extra time, but Morocco triumphed 4-2 in a tense penalty shootout, knocking Nigeria out of the tournament. Hours before the game, Davido shared his bet slip on social media, showing that he had staked $50,000 on a Nigerian victory. Unfortunately, the Super Eagles were unable to score in open play, and Davido’s wager was lost.
Peller also revealed that he had placed a $3,000 bet on Nigeria to win within 90 minutes, which also did not succeed. Speaking during a livestream on Wednesday night, Peller expressed his disappointment, saying, “Thank you Super Eagles for playing very well. I have lost my $3,000 bet. You guys were playing well in the previous games before I decided to place a bet and watch your match. Maybe, if I stop watching your games, you will start playing well again.”
The losses have drawn attention on social media, with fans sharing reactions to both the Super Eagles’ elimination and the high-profile bets placed by celebrities. The results highlight the unpredictability of football, where even favored teams and big wagers can face unexpected outcomes.
Despite the defeat, many Nigerians applauded the Super Eagles for their resilience and performance throughout the tournament, noting that reaching the semi-finals remains a notable achievement.
